That was anticlimactic…

The 24th came and went, how naive was I to expect answers? Talk about a joke; we stand exactly where we did when the children were placed with us. I’m saddened that these kids cannot be reunified, somewhere deep in my heart I expected them to go home by now. Not because I don’t like them, they’re absolutely wonderful, but because I’m ultra positive and I want the kids to be happy. They’re happy now but I know they’d rather live with their parents or other family members, who wouldnt?!

I’ve started stockpiling for school, in 6 weeks school will be in session. It’s anticipated that the kids will still be with us, I’m both happy and sad at the same time. I will happily love them until they’re reunited, pffft who am I kidding? I’ll love them forever. Oh, my, gosh. School is starting in 6 weeks!!! Panic. School clothes, school shoes, school supplies, school!! Aaaah. Let’s see, I’ll have a 7th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, Kindergartner, and a Pre K student. Wow.

Let’s talk cheer, you know that my girls love cheering with Universal Sonics in Lake Havasu…Cheer is life to these kids. Well, Biscuit recently tried out for a 4.2 team and holy hello that’s all I hear about. Biscuit. Wants. It. Bad. So badly she pesters her coaches, asks to attend practices, and talks my ear off. I love that she is interested and I love that she has her own voice and fights for what she wants, it’s a proud mama moment, but sadly I don’t think she will make that team. It’s a higher flying position, Biscuit isn’t skilled in level 4 flying…I hate to see her let down but she feels pretty confident. I’ll let her be happy and optimistic, I’ll tell her she’s foing great (she is!), and pump her up. I want her to fight for the things that she wants and I want her to be successful in everything! Keep at it, girl! Bunny is excited to be on her team, she wants to work on her tumbling, she is happy go lucky as usual. Both of them are so great, I’m so proud of them and love to watch them. Lemon wants to be a cheerleader, She’s still too young. I bought her practice wear like her sisters and she is going to be over the moon once she sees her Sonics top!

Bells and Shy are loving summer camp! They love the activities and crafty stuff. I enjoy hearing about their days and seeing all their stuff. Speaking of camps…Biscuit just returned from Woodward West for cheer camp! She was gone for a week and had a stellar time. Boy Child should be going to MX camp the next month, a whole week away from us. He will love it, a week in Prescott with his dirt bike and the Lord. Yes, you heard right! It’s a Christian MX camp…I couldn’t be happier!

My boys, Shy and Boychild are currently grounded for disobeying me. Shy is doing a wonderful job at doing extra chores to shorten his groundation. I’m really proud of him for taking his punishment like a champ and taking the initiative to do something about it. He really isn’t liking the whole ordeal. Boychild, ugh, I love him something fierce but that kid is a pain in my butt. You see, he wants to do what Shy is doing by doing extra chores and shortening the 3 day no electronics ban for them. Bless his heart but he is clueless. He wants to do good but he is lazy and wants to do easy stuff if do things half assed. He cleaned his room by stuffing everything behind dressers, in theĀ  losets, etc. So, in the time it took him to clean his room, properly, Shy had successfully completed 4 small tasks that I had assigned. I love that he looks up to Shy and hopefully he can learn a thing or ten from him.

All in all, I’ve been feeling really proud of all of my kids, all 6 of them. I feel really loved and supported by Husband and very appreciated. I have been working quite a bit, I’ve been volunteering 4 times a week, I’ve made sure to plan fin family activities, I’ve been parenting (my fav!), and I’ve even put aside some me time! Things are going swimmingly…I know what I’m missing. I need to get my booty to church on Sundays! Summer has been hectic, I know that’s not an excuse. With 6 kids, work, fundraising, camps, summer activities, and down time I’ve just been busy. Yikes. When I type that I feel terrible. I should rectify this.

The 24th can’t come soon enough

I’m hoping for some good news, I’m really pushing for reunification with Bells and Shy! Realistically, it looks like they’ll be here for the long haul. But, I’m optimistic and I’m going to continue to look on the bright side. They have some really swell family members and they are loved by so many, I love to see that they have a great group of people looking out for them.

I learned something new today, about kinship foster care. If you are looking to get licensed as kinship there are waivers that can be used in your favor. Say, you don’t have enough space in your home for 3 girls and 1 boy because you live in a two bedroom home (in the state of Arizona boys and girls are required to have seperate bedrooms after age 5 or 6) but if you’re kin you can request a waiver and it can possibly be overlooked by the homestudy. That’s great! THAT means more kids can be reunited with their families even if they couldn’t pass a traditional homestudy.

In other news; a blogger friend recently posted about adoption goals. I’m going to going to follow her lead… Husband and I are definitely interested in adopting older children someday. Preferably a sibset (or just one, whatever works) between the ages on 6-11, any race, any sex, we’re pretty open. Heck, maybe even a little younger or older. Obviously, we want children who will not harm our family or have extreme behaviors. In the meantime, we will foster and help kids get back to their homes. Perhaps somewhere along the way we will have a chance to adopt via foster care (a placement or one of those red file things) or through a photolisting. Although I’ve heard that often the children on photolistings or Wednesdays Child are ‘damaged goods’ and photolistings are their last resort. I have heard a few success stories but it seems to be rare. Do any of my readers have any success stories? Please share!

Summertime fun

Bells and Shy are still with us, they’re a joy to be around. They are attending summer camp and love it…I love it too. They both come home with stories and lots of happiness, it also frees us two seats in my car during this busy time. I’m constantly running kids here and there, I feel like I live in my car.

I recently received my first foster care stipend, that’s great news but let’s talk about this for a second. During the first cycle you’re required to use a hard copy, paper that has been printed with a carbon copy sheet. Boy, I was a complete bonehead–I signed it and sent it in. I read the paper and I was pretty sure I had completed it correctly. Nope. It was sent back. Apparently you need to verify every unit. That pretty much means copying everything they printed into the boxes below. Um, okay. I did it and sent it in. WIN! A check arrived on Monday, just enough to cover all of last months expenses. I followed all the instructions on my hard copy to set up my online account for billing (yay for that!) Unfortunately I was hung up on a number, a provider number or something, so I had to wait until I saw my licensing worker to ask. It’s your SSN, typically the female person in your home like your wife or girlfriend. I have no clue why they do that, favor the female, but whatever. Now you know.

Biscuit is currently in California at a cheer camp, they originally had a different date that our gym had planned on attending but things change. The Boychild is enjoying his summer swim team. Bunny is all about cheer. Lemon is…well, Lemon. She’s not in any activities right now because all things for little kids take place in the morning a days I’m not intetested in taking a flock of children with me to an activity. All toddler activities are parent based, I don’t have the time to provide the one on one for her right now. Although, we have been participating in the Parents as Teachers program; a teacher comes to our house twice a month and does activities with Lemon. It’s an early education program and it’s wonderful….even better? It’s free.

I miss date night. Husband and I had dates weekly while school was in session, I miss it. Once school starts up and AWANA restarts our date night will be alive again!

That sums it up! Have a great week!

Things have been quite busy here; I’ve got Bunny and Biscuit in cheer, Boychild is on a swim team, Bells and Shy will be starting summer camp soon, and Lemon will be starting this prek program next week. Having 6 kids and running around to classes is tough! Not to mention all the visits from foster care agencies, behavioral health agencies, department of children’s safety  (or whatever the heck they’re called now…it used to be simply CPS) and other random government officials. Oh, and all of the extra doctors visits, dentists appointments, and eye care appointments.

Mama needs a cocktail. When does school start again?!

Biscuit is going to summer camp away from home, this will be her first time. A whole week with her cheer friends…alone! I’m anxious because that’s a long time to be away from my daughter but I know she is excited and beyond ready. Aaarg, this whole junior high thing has got me in a tizzy. My baby, my first born, is growing up. This season Biscuit is on two cheer teams, a level 1 team and a level 2 team, she is excited. I am too, with 4 days a week at the gym that doesn’t leave too much time to screw off with friends and get into trouble. Bunny is on one team and excited none the less, she hope next year to be like her big sis and cross over onto another team. Lemon thinks she is a cheerleader, we let her believe it.

Bell and Shy are doing well, Shy has been asking more and more questions about the situation and is looking forward to meeting with the case worker at the end of the month. I’m typically honest with him, I tell him what I know and let him know when we can expect more answers.  Bells is doing outstanding and has requested to live with us forever; while it is amazing that she loves us, I try to remind her that she has a family that loves her very much and no matter what happens she can always call me or come visit.

Husband has been working a lot, in fact he has some traveling to do next week. I get the bed to myself…woooowho! I’m going to eat in bed, I’m so naughty! I need a pedicure but I’ve lost all of my alone time since school has let out. Once school is back in session I should have some free time to pamper myself.

That sums it up!
